MEET NIGERIAN FEMALE REPRESENTATIVE PER – EXCELLENCE: HONOURABLE DR. ZAINAB GIMBA

She is sound, well read, proficient, astute and holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in public Administration and Policy analysis from the prestigious University of Abuja.

She wrote of herself, “Experienced Lecturer with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in Research, Policy Analysis, English, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service…”

Hon. Dr. Zainab Gimba is the only female House of Representatives member from Borno state representing Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge Federal Constituency in the 9th Nigeria’s National Assembly. She brings to bear her wealth of experience  as Senior Lecturer, University of Maiduguri, and nine years in public sector administration in home state having held positions of Honourable commissioner first in the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment, Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board and just before her election into the 9th Assembly in March 2019, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources also in Bornu state.

 

It is not surprising that barely three months after her inauguration into the 9th National Assembly on June 11th 2019,  she was on September 24 2019 elected vice-chairperson Commonwealth Women in Parliament (CWP) International in Kampala, Uganda at its 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala.

Hon. Dr. Zainab Gimba, a former university lecturer, and public sector professional per excellence and first time member of Nigeria’s federal House of Representatives was also elected the African Regional chairperson of the CWP during the women parliamentary body’s annual general meeting in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Her emergence as vice-chair of CWP African Region qualifies her to represent the continent at the CWP International meetings as a member. Narrating her experience she said, “Just recently, I won the seat of the chairperson commonwealth women parliamentarians (CWP) African Region during the Zanzibar, Tanzania annual general meeting,”.

The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) was established in 1989 by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) as a network for women Members of Parliament to advocate for representation and maintenance of gender equality.

The CWP provides means of building the capacity of women parliamentarians, enhancing awareness s and encouraging the inclusion of gender perspective in different aspects.
